New Year, New You: How to get the most out of 2017

The champagne has been drunk and the last of the leftover turkey has been eaten, which can only mean one thing: the New Year is officially here. And with the New Year comes New Year’s Resolutions, or at least a determination to make this year better than the last. Whatever your goals or plans for the New Year, we’ve rounded up some of the best tips and tricks to help you make 2017 a year to remember.

New Year, New Body

It might seem cliché, but many people like to start off the New Year with a health kick. After weeks of indulging in Christmas treats (and rightfully so!) it may be time to swap the Quality Street for some vegetables.

If you’re looking to get fit and healthy this year, January is the time to do it. Many gyms offer discounts and deals for new members at this time of year, so be sure to shop around to find the best deal.

If you’re not sure if your health kick will last, many gyms now offer ‘pay-as-you-go’ membership, rather than annual or multi-year contracts. If you’re new to the gym and aren’t sure if it’s for you, this is a great way to test the water without committing to a costly monthly payment. You can find gyms near you that offer pay-as-you-go passes through

New Year, New Mindset

January can be a difficult time. After the excitement and busyness of Christmas, going back to ‘normal’ can leave you feeling down. This year, why not focus on your mental health just as much as your physical health?

Taking time each day to note down things you’re grateful, happy, or excited for can help you create a positive mindset, and beat the January blues.

You can do this anywhere – mentally, on the notes section of your phone, on the back of an old receipt. But if you want something to look back on at the end of the year, consider dedicating a specific notebook to the cause. The ‘Knock Knock Gonna Be Okay’ journal from John Lewis is the perfect place to write down positive thoughts and reflections.

New Year, New Destinations

The New Year doesn’t have to be about changing yourself. This year, instead of making a list of things you want to do differently, try writing a list of places you want to visit. Traveling to new places will not only fill your life with adventure and excitement, but will also open you up to new ideas, possibilities, food, and people.

Whether it’s skiing in the Alps, sunbathing on the sunny beaches of Spain, or just visiting new places here in the UK, make a list of all the places you want to go, and make 2017 the year you start ticking them off. Remember to shop around for the best holiday deals, and use sites like Expedia, Skyscanner, and to compare all the best deals!
