On 5th May 2017, the old-style five pound notes will no longer be considered legal tender. That means from 5th May you can’t use those notes anywhere in the UK.
So, it’s time to get spending! Here are five things you can spend your fivers on before it’s too late.
In the digital age, everybody loves a good gadget. Whilst a fiver won’t get you much closer to the latest iPhone or a shiny new laptop, there are lots of great gadgets to spend your cash on while you can.
This credit card sized power bank from iwantoneofthose.com, for example, is only £4.99 and perfect for charging your phone on the go. Never experience the fear of being phoneless while out again!
You’re probably not going to be able to buy a whole new wardrobe with all your soon-to-be-defunct fivers, but you can top up on the basics.
Vest tops and camis are a staple of every woman’s wardrobe – especially in winter when layering is key. New Look has a wide range of camis and vests in different colours and with different necklines, all for well under £5 each. So, why not give your wardrobe a little love by using your leftover fivers?
If you’ve got little ones running around, why not use your old fivers to treat them? If the novelty of all the Christmas toys has already worn off, a new craft activity might keep them occupied on these rainy winter afternoons.
The Entertainer has a wealth of different colouring books and craft activities available for under £5, including this Crayola Minions Colour and Sticker Book.
January is fast coming to the end, which means it’s acceptable to ‘forget’ about your New Year’s diet and start eating chocolate again. Or, if you really are committed to the New You, the end of January means Valentine’s Day is approaching, so it’s time to treat someone you love.
Either way, Thorntons has a range of small boxes of chocolates for £5 or less – so get buying!
The cold weather is notorious for drying your skin out, so now’s the perfect time to invest in a good moisturiser. Not only will your future-self thank you for taking care of your skin, but you’ll also get rid of those pesky old fivers.
The Botanics All Day Bright Hydrating Day Cream from Boots is a great way to brighten up your skin. Plus, it contains SPF15 to help protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, all year round.
If you don’t manage to use all your old fivers before 5th May, you can exchange them for new £5 notes at your local bank, Post Office, or Building Society. If they won’t accept your old £5 notes, they can be exchanged with the Bank of England in London by post or in person.
