Spruce up your home this Easter with these DIY projects

Spring is officially here, and with Easter (and its customary 4-day weekend!) just around the corner, it’s time to give your home a bit of a lift. Whether you want to transform your garden into the perfect barbecue venue, or finally do something with the spare room you’ve been neglecting for years, we’ve got a list of DIY home improvement projects that you can get through this Easter.

Love your garden

Now that the weather is getting warmer, summer garden parties and barbecues aren’t such a distant dream. This Easter weekend, take time to give your garden some attention and transform it into the outdoor paradise you deserve.

If you’ve neglected your garden over the winter months, start with a tidy-up. De-weed your patio and flowerbeds to give yourself a blank canvas ready to bring to life.  Cheap yet effective weed killers can be picked up at Wilko – like this Weedol Gun Rootkiller Plus – for less than £5.

Once you’ve prepared your garden, it’s time to start planning your planting. Tomatoes, seed potatoes, and garlic can all be planted in April, and will give you the basis of many summer salads in a couple of months. If you want more beauty than practicality, now is also the time to sow hardy annuals such as cornflower, love-in-the-mist, and Californian poppies. Whatever you decide to plant, B&Q has a wide variety of seeds that are ready to be planted in your garden!

To make your garden somewhere where you really want to spend time, invest in some quality garden furniture and spend summer evenings relaxing outside. Argos currently have 1/3 off garden furniture, so it’s the perfect time to buy the perfect pieces.

Liven up old rooms with a paint job

When was the last time you gave your kitchen or spare room a lick of paint? If you can’t remember the answer, it’s time to show your neglected rooms a bit of love.

Repainting a room – even if you stick to your same old trusted colour – can bring a bit of life back to your home and make a tried room look vibrant and full of energy.

Whether you want something truly bold or neutral and simple, Wilko’s wide range of paints will have you covered - and with many colours now 30% off, repainting won’t break the bank.

Decorate to your heart’s content

Redecorating doesn’t have to mean lengthy paint jobs or expensive wallpapers – it can be as simple as sprucing up a room with a new rug or decorative little touches.

From new prints to hang on your office wall to stylish clocks for your living room or kitchen, Laura Ashley currently have up to 50% off a wide range of home accessories. So, what are you waiting for? Treat yourself and your home to a touch of elegance this Easter.

Do the little things you’ve been putting off

That picture you’ve been meaning to hang? Hang it. That leaky tap you’ve been meaning to fix? Fix it – or find a plumber that can. Those curtains you’ve been meaning to clean? Clean them.

The 4-day weekend is the perfect time to do all the little odd jobs around the house that never seem to be a priority. Go through every room of your house and make a list of the little things that need doing. Then work your way through that list. You might not get through it all, but you’ll certainly do some of it. Let the Easter weekend be one of productivity and accomplishment.

If you need to invest in some hardy power tools to help you get the jobs done, B&Q’s power tools are currently on sale, making it easier and cheaper than ever to fix up your home.
